Supermarkets Get Strict With Trans Fat Usage

Three of the popular supermarket chains have announced that they would completely avoid the usage of Trans fats in their products.//

Trans fat was recently in the news as it increased the risk of obesity and heart diseases. It is also thought to cause cancers among some people. The supermarket chains are Sainsbury, Asda and Tesco. It was found that small amounts of hydrogenated oil pose great threat and affected the health of the consumers.

They form a part of almost all the ingredients as they increase the shelf life of a product and give food a better taste. Artificial trans fats are found in processed and fried foods, including biscuits, muffins, popcorn and ready-made meals. It is formed by hydrogenating the vegetable oil and is converted in to solids. The ill effects of the trans fat were listed by the researchers in the British medical journal. Followed which Marks & Spencer has stopped using hydrogenated vegetable oil in its food production. The World Health Organisation has advised people to totally eliminate trans fats from their diets.
