The spread of MRSA has baffled experts and in a new move to contain the spread, NHS trust has brought about a ruling that forbids Doctors//, and staff of hospitals, especially those discharging clinical care, to wear any ‘unnecessary’ clothing and accessories- ties, scarves, wraps, watches, jewelry and the like.

The rules have been set into action by the Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trust, with an effort to bring down the rate of MRSA infection that ranks very high in England. The NHS trust has warned that if any of the staff in the hospitals are caught wearing forbidden clothing, the trust will not hesitate to initiate disciplinary action.

Doctors have responded negatively, explaining that such a move is more a ‘politically correct’ action, rather than one based on scientific evidence. Infact doctors are apprehensive, that the relationship between doctors and patients, based on confidence and respect, may take a beating, when the Doctors are dressed casually.

Dr Michael Dixon, chairman of the NHS Alliance, said "This is political correctness rather than science. Patients need to be able to respect and trust their doctors and going around without ties might damage that relationship."
