Substance abuse linked to adult antisocial syndrome

Antisocial personality disorder is common in people who are into substance abuse.// This was the result of the study that was conducted by National Institute on Drug Abuse, US, and others after taking information from 43,000 adults of USA.

Antisocial personality disorder is a form of psychiatric condition that is characterized by behavior that tends to manipulate, exploit or violate the rights of others. Often people with antisocial personality tend to do criminal activities.

The strong association found between substance abuse like drug or alcohol addiction suggests that treatment for substance abuse needs to be integrated with the clinical examination of the mental health of the abusers and treated accordingly. The research results suggest that every single drug abuse disorders found in the research have been linked with antisocial personality disorder. The results also said that there is a stronger link between antisocial behavior syndrome and substance abuse in women than men. However, of the all substances abuse concerned with the research, drug abuse seems to generate more antisocial behavior disorders than any thing else.

The research is published in the June issue of The Journal of Clinical Psychiatry.
