Study Of Twins May Solve Aging Questions

University of NSW researchers in Australia are conducting a study involving 300 pairs of older twins. The study could answer some questions about aging. //

'Even though we have twins that are identical, there are vast differences between them,' study leader Professor Perminder Sachdev said. 'By studying twins, we will be able to better determine which influences on the ageing process are genetic and which are environmental.'

Prof Sachdev said that time ages the DNA, but the various influences need to be studied in greater detail. The study has 150 identical twins and another 150 sets of non-identical twins. Participants will be assessed three times and provide a blood sample, having a MRI brain scan and answer questions about their health, lifestyle, memory and thinking.
