Study Confirms That Slow Eating Restricts Appetite

'Slow eating reduces intake of food' – The general belief of so many is confirmed by the researchers now. A University of Rhode Island study confirms // that the concept of eating slower results in the restriction of appetite which infact was bandied about for decades due to the lack of scientific evidence.

The study provides a direct relation between slow eating and less calories intake. The study was reported in the month of October at the annual meeting of the North American Association for the Study of Obesity.

Researchers had given large plates of pasta to 30 college-aged-women asking them to eat as much as they wanted. It was found that 646 calories in nine minutes is being consumed by the participants when they were asked to eat quickly wherein only 579 calories in 29 minutes could only be consumed when they slowed it down to 15 to 20 times of mouthful.

In addition, Kathleen Melanson, lead author of the study told LiveScience.com said that eating slowly not only reduces calorie consumption, it also provides "a greater feeling of satiety at meal completion and 60 minutes afterwards."
