Students in South Australia could be receiving food supplements to improve their behaviour and studying performance if the government //gives the go-ahead. Currently, it is still investigating the feasibility of doing so.

Health Minister John Hill said the South Australian Health Department would review the British study, which claimed that children as young as five would benefit from a daily dose of Omega 3 fish oil.

"The focus in SA is on providing good nutrition through our public schools and combating childhood obesity," he said. But the suggestion could be controversial since many parents already give their children a healthy dose of the oil.

But these supplements are expensive and poor students could benefit. In the UK, the Education Department has asked the Food Standards Agency to give it a clear picture on the benefits of using the oil.
