Striking Students Asked to Vacate Hostels

Amidst hectic efforts to end the medicos stir, the government has issued notices to resident doctors to vacate hostels and warned senior faculty members// who are supporting them.

"We have issued notices to agitating resident doctors to vacate hostels if they fail to return to work," Health Ministry officials said here today.

The step was taken after government issued advertisements for recruiting resident doctors, interviews for which were likely to begin tomorrow, they said.

"The new doctors will need hostels," the officials said.

They said the government was also planning to issue notices to senior faculty members who were aiding and abetting the agitation.

They claimed the AIIMS faculty was itself divided on the issue with some favouring quotas and others against it.

"Some of the faculty members have approached us for implementing the proposed OBC quota as soon as possible," they said.

Meanwhile in Jaipur the resident doctors, agitating against the Centre's reservation proposal, today held an outdoor OPD for ailing patients near the Sawai Man Singh hopsital here.

About 150 patients were attended to by a team of striking doctors and were sent to various wards of the SMS hospital, Dr R Kataria, President of 'Youth for Equality' told PTI here.

"We do not want to harass patients for our cause and this kind of camp for them would regularly be organised," he said.

Later 350 resident doctors, who are on strike for the last four days, organised a meeting to discuss their future strategy, Kataria said.

In the evening, plays would be organised at the Ambedkar Circle and Gaurav Towers to make public aware about the "ill effects of reservation to the creamy layer of OBCs", he said.

A rally will also be held here on May 23 in which doctors and engineers across Rajasthan would take part to support the nationwide protests, he said.
