Stem Cells From Bone Marrow Found To Improve Cardiac Functioning After A Heart Attack

Adult stem cells derived from bone marrow may improve cardiac functioning after a heart attack, according to a new study.The finding adds to a growing body of evidence that suggests adult stem cells // from bone marrow have therapeutic potential for restoring cardiac cells among people who have had a heart attack.

Of the 60 study participants who all had coronary interventions, half were given bone marrow stem-cell transfer and the other participants were given optimum medical therapy. Patients who had the stem-cell transfer had about a 7-percent improvement in left ventricle function compared to only a 0.7-percent increase for patients given medical therapy. Furthermore, cell transfer did not increase the risk of adverse events.

Some researchers however say that safety is the key issue, thus they say that more research is crucial around the world to overcome safety problems.
