According to a latest survey, there is a steady decline in the number of middle-aged people dying from cancer in Britain // .

The findings were presented at the annual Britain Against Cancer conference on the 24th of this month by researchers from Cancer Research UK and the UK Association of Cancer Registries.

The survey revealed, that while cancer incidence rates have remained stable, there has been a steady decline in death rates from cancer in the UK over the last decade. The survey, which included incidence and mortality data of patients of the age group of 35 - 69, found that between 1993 and 2003, while the cancers of the lung, breast, bowel and prostate are still the most common types, the incidence of some less common cancers is increasing.

However, the survey found that deaths from bowel cancer, breast cancer, stomach cancer, lung cancer and cervical cancer have fallen by about 2.4 % a year. Experts speculate that the probable explanation for the decline were the use of antibiotics and improvements in food preservation methods.

Experts maintain that leading a healthy lifestyle can prevent most cancers.
