The capital of India is on high alert to tackle any Bird Flu cases. A 10-bedded ward has been created at 'All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS)' and another 20// bedded ward has been set up at the Deendayal Upadhyay Hospital to treat any of the patients with avian influenza or bird flu.

Another step by the local Delhi Government has been the instruction to food restaurant in the city to obtain chickens from only authorized Ghazipur poultry market.

Delhi Health Minister Yoganand Shastri has instructed the Medical Superintendents of 12 city government hospitals to take stock of their preparedness. Two laboratories at Maulana Azad Hospital and AIIMS have been directed to conduct blood tests for suspect human cases.

Three million doses of the anti-flu medicine Tamiflu have been made available in Delhi.

"We are fully prepared to meet any eventualities in Delhi," Shastri said informing the press.

"Our doctors are checking the chicken in Ghazipur poultry market before they are sold and I have asked the hotels to buy chickens only from the Ghazipur Market," he added..

Most city hotels, airlines and restaurants have already stopped serving chicken since Monday.
