Son donates part of his liver to father

Thunder Bay: A 24-year-old youth, Joshua Lavoie, offered to donate nearly 60% of his liver to his dad, so that his father could live. The son apparently did not have any// second thoughts about donating his liver, according to sources.

Ted Lavoie, 54, had been suffering hepatitis C for almost two decades, which had completely damaged his liver. There was no option left to reverse his failing liver, other than a liver transplant.

"If he stayed on the waiting list, it could take another five years," the son said. "I didn't want him to have to wait that long."

Fortunately Joshua’s blood group was the perfect match. Ted Lavoie will be required to stay in Toronto for a period of 16 weeks following the surgery, during which time he will be monitored closely with anti-rejection drugs.
