Snap Shot of the Drinking Habits of the Scots and Its Associated Memory Loss

According to the survey conducted by the Scottish executives large numbers of Scots is experiencing memory loss as a result of binge// drinking. The researchers feel that memory loss is associated with long-term brain damage. It can also leave young women in vulnerable situations, becoming a target for rapists.

This survey targeted young people in four cities found that a large percentage was losing their memories as a result of alcohol. In Aberdeen, 100 % said that they had suffered memory loss due to drinking at some point and 41 % revealed that they had experienced in the previous week. In Glasgow about 98 % suffering some memory loss and 42 % of them in the past week. In Edinburgh about 94 % suffered memory loss but only 44 % in the previous week, and 93% in Falkirk suffered memory loss and 56 % in the previous week due to binge drinking.

About 300 people were surveyed in the age group of 18 to 35. Jack Law, the chief executive of Alcohol Focus Scotland was very sad about the plight of the youth and expressed concerns. He said that awareness has to be created among the people regarding binge drinking and its harmful effects. The average for the four cities was 72% and 84 % of them said that drinking was part of their lifestyle. A Scottish Executive spokeswoman said that both the Government and an individual have a role to play in tackling alcohol related problems.
