Singapore's AVA Advocates "Bio-Segregation" To Combat Bird Flu

The Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority in Singapore has announced that it will be shortly implementing a "bio-segregation" system so that areas affected with bird flu can be immediately isolated. //The agency also said that it would undertake an emergency vaccination program should the threat of bird flu be imminent.

Measures like disinfecting facilities and restricted entry are already in place in farms, but the AVA feels that ore measures will be needed. The detection of bird flu in Selangor has increased concerns in Singapore. , 'With effective bio-segregation, should there be an isolated outbreak within a cluster, poultry in other clusters need not be culled, thus enhancing the resilience of our local egg supply,' Heng Chee How, Minister of State for National Development told the Parliament. The AVA is stockpiling vaccine from Holland and says that it will have 2.2 million doses by April. This should be enough for all poultry in the country.
