A Statement issued by the Ministry of Health (MOH) says that Singapore will soon conduct a multi- agency exercise to test its Bird Flu Pandemic Readiness.//

More than 1,000 personnel from 21 ministries and agencies including the MOH, the Ministry of Education, the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore, Immigration and Checkpoint Authority and Maritime Port Authority, will participate in the exercise code-named SPARROWHAWK II.

The two-day emergency exercise endeavors to simulate bird flu pandemic at 19 locations including the Changi Airport, the Tuas Land Checkpoint, hospitals and other medical institutions.

"Through this joint effort, we aim to strengthen the public health defense in the event of a possible flu pandemic and to gear up our national surveillance, response and operational capabilities," the statement reported.

The MOH had conducted a series of exercises in May and June this year to enhance the country’s readiness to tackle bird flu.
