Due to shortage of services in a hospital at Brisbane a patient had to be referred to a hospital 30 minutes away. Although he was attacked and was in serious condition, attention could not be paid.

The hospital in question is // the Caboolture Hospital, where emergency services are scarce due to shortage of doctors. While the emergency ward closed briefly, it is presently operational from 8am to 6pm every day.

The statement by a spokesman for the Queensland Ambulance Service blamed it on Queensland Health restrictions on admissions. "We simply have to fit in with Queensland Health policy," he said.

The man suffered lacerations to his right shoulder, forearms and lower legs, but was in a satisfactory condition yesterday.

This case is not isolated by is accompanied by a volley of others as the services are cut.

"We're now weeks into the Queensland emergency department crisis and the Government has no answer to the doctor exodus," he said.
