Sharing Personal Stories Can Help Bond Parents And Kids

Sharing bedtime stories about your childhood rather than those mentioned on kid’s books could be a great way to bond with your kids// highlights a new research conducted by Dr. Deborah Strevy, an education expert.

Although research points out that story telling has been in vogue for over thousands of years, most of us do not find time to share stories in this materialistic world. This can be attributed to busy lifestyle. Extended conversations among family members have indeed become a rare event where everyone is busy chasing their dreams and making money.

'Storytelling has been around for thousands of years. Unfortunately, our busy lifestyles today don’t allow for extended conversations among family members, and we miss the opportunity to share the stories of our families. Sharing stories gives children insight into their parents' values,’ says the author.

In addition to promoting emotional warmth, sharing personal stories can help educate to establish their identity. It is vital that children learn to understand and appreciate the problems through which their parents have waded through. It might also provide important clues about solving certain problems related to relationships. 'Kids only see their parents as competent. Children need to know parents weren’t always that way,' commented the author.
