Sextuplets Born in Vancouver, Canada

Sextuplets were born at B C women’s hospital in Vancouver, Canada last weekend. Neonatologists of the hospital feel that the babies have a fair chance of survival//.

Parents of the sextuplets preferred anonymity. Feeding these infants and making them breathe on their own are the challenges faced by the doctors now.

Each of these babies weighed around 1.6 pounds. Out of the six born, four are boys and the remaining two are girls.

Since these infants have not completed their gestational period, their organs are not fully developed and they weigh much lesser than the normal ones. Hence they have to remain in the hospital for another three months. Currently they are given steroids for their growth.

Even after they leave the hospital, they have to be monitored closely and brought to hospital for regular follow-up. They may require an additional supply of oxygen.

Neonatologists feel that they may have some kind of development malfunction like hearing or vision problems and also neurological problems later.
