A majority of Californian adults are of the opinion, that it is imperative to impart comprehensive Sex education in the State’s Public Schools//, according to a survey, by the San Francisco-based Public Policy Institute of California. About 75% of respondents opted for programs with information on abstinence from sex, use of condoms and contraception, while 17% favored information on mere abstinence programs. At least one program on HIV/AIDS, during middle school and high school, was solicited.

Majority of Californian adults are of the opinion that Sex Education in Public Schools is incommensurate with the need- Sixty-eight percent of adults feel that, local school districts must have authority over information in sex education programs, while 9% opine that the ultimate authority should rest with the Federal Government. Mark Baldassare, PPIC's statewide survey director, has expressed a positive note on California’s distinct,Unity in Diversity - despite differences in fiscal issues, there is universal consensus on social issues.
