Washington – A study conducted recently has shown that students who participate in sexual abstinence programs may portray similar sexual tendencies // like those who did not participate in the program. The study showed that the program did not create the desired positive impact.

Critics have always felt that the $176 million being spent by the Federal government annually on the ‘abstinence-until-marriage education’may not actually be successful . The current study just seems to prove this point.

The government officials have cautioned against making too much of one study. Yet, what came out glaringly from the study was the need for imparting the abstinence message at different stages of child development, so that it could impact their behaviour positively.

"This report confirms that these interventions are not like vaccines. You can't expect one dose in middle school, or a small dose, to be protective all throughout the youth's high school career," said Harry Wilson, the commissioner of the Family and Youth Services Bureau at the Administration for Children and Families.
