Senior Citizens Advised to Sign up for Drug Plan 2007

Medicare prescription drug plan 2007 commences on November 15 and will continue till December 31, during which time people can enroll.//

This benefit program was started in 2006 for senior citizens and the disabled people across America in order to reduce prescription drug costs.

The benefits of this program begin from January 2007 during which time citizens who enrolled for this during the first enrolling drive have the option of changing their plans if they wish to while people those satisfied with their old plans can continue with the same plan, because the renewal is automatic.

Last year around 80,000 southwest Missouri senior citizens opted for one of the 52 available Part D plans. Sources have reported that the drug benefit which was signed as a law by President George W. Bush, saves people around $1,200 a year.

The government designed the Part D program and is provided by private insurance companies that compete to offer the best services at the lowest cost available.

In fact Medicare has even an online database to help senior citizens manage their costs during the coverage period.

A person doesn't need to enroll in a Medicare prescription drug plan if he has a drug benefit plan through some veterans plan, retirement plan, employer plan or other plan which covers the medical costs.

Those citizens who may decide to switch plans are urged to do so by about Dec. 8.

Last year there was a lot of confusion because of the website options but this year the process is much simpler as the government has completely changed the Medicare site and made it more user-friendly.

All senior citizens of ages 65 and above are advised to sign up for the Medicare Part D program, although they may not use any prescription drugs right now.
