Sciton Receives FDA Clearance for Lipolysis and Wrinkle Treatment

Sciton announced that the new ProLipo(TM) laser module received clearance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for laser-assisted lipolysis, and its BBL(TM) broadband pulsed light received clearance for the treatment of wrinkles.

ProLipo represents the latest technological advancement from Sciton to employ fiber-delivered laser energy to target fatty tissue. Using the ProLipo module, physicians will be able to offer patients a minimally invasive treatment that ablates and liquefies fat deposits in treated areas. ProLipo will ideally be used in combination therapy with other proprietary treatments developed by Sciton. The end result is skin that appears firm, toned and smooth. As a stand-alone procedure or in combination with liposuction, ProLipo can be performed comfortably under local anesthesia with less downtime and recovery than traditional lipolysis.

BBL is the first intense pulsed light system to receive clearance for wrinkle treatment. The SkinTyte(TM) accessory for the BBL is ideally suited to be used in combination with ProLipo and will provide physicians with a unique modality for facial rejuvenation.

Early clinical trials show promising outcomes. "We are encouraged by the results we are seeing with the ProLipo," stated Dr. Dale Koop, general manager for Sciton. "Our goal is to provide customers with superior cosmetic treatment alternatives without the risks, side effects, and costs often associated with surgical procedures." Sciton has not announced when ProLipo will be offered for sale, but announced that it will have proprietary features and performance and will be packaged with or without SkinTyte.

Sciton, located in Palo Alto, California is committed to providing best- in-class laser and light source solutions for medical professionals who want superior durability, performance and value for applications that benefit their patients, their practice, and themselves. SkinTyte, MicroLaserPeel(R
