Salmonella Poisoning Suspected In Peanut Butter

Food and Drug Administration is advising families to discard all Peter Pan and Great Value peanut butter bought since May as there could be //a link between these products and a salmonella outbreak. Conagra the company that processes peanut butter is not ready to comment on the pending lawsuits regarding the same.

All the same, they are ready to withdraw all its peanut butter as they feel that consumer health figures top in the list of their priorities. Generally such outbreaks are common among meat and poultry products but fruits and vegetables are also said to be added in this list now.

FDA reports that a few jars of Earth's Best Baby Food have been infected with a botulism bug. Last year there was an outbreak of E.coli in bagged spinach and lettuce in Taco Bell restaurants.

The attorney of the people who have been affected by peanut butter feels that their clients need to be compensated adequately. Joan Horbiak, director of the American Dietetic Association notes with surprise about the salmonella infection in peanut butter. He opines that peanuts are roasted at 300 degrees which is very hot for any bacteria to survive.

Salmonella poisoning kills around 600 people every year and children are more prone to these infections as they have a weak immune system. Horbiak advises the parents to look for the danger signs such as diarrhea, fever and stomach ache.
