Sacremento: Prisoners in Safe hands

After thorough nation wide scouting , a federal judge has chosen the top health official in Santa Clara County to hold the reins of California's strife torn healthcare system, according to reliable sources. //

Bob Sillen, 63, will be officially appointed as a federal receiver U.S. District Judge Thelton Henderson on Tuesday. This decision came about after enough had happened to suggest that the system needed a major facelift. This decision now transfers power from the state to federal authorities’ regarding all major decisions about the quality of care in prisons.

This appointment is the first of its kind where a government operation of such a size has come under the federal receiver banner. Henderson is slated to issue the detailed order, next week, outlining the powers of Bob Sillen. The healthcare system takes care of 168,000 inmates and employs 6,000 people in 33 prisons.

Rhonda McClinton Brown, executive director of a coalition of community clinics in Santa Clara County said that “ Sillen is one of the most progressive, innovative and aggressive public health administrators I've known. He has really pushed the envelope of public hospital care with Valley Medical Center."
