Rural Doctors Had It Enough

The doctors serving in the rural areas have had enough. Most Doctors are on the brink of burn out after putting in long hours of work . A survey conducted by the Australian Medical Association has found that these doctors are sick of the stress because of the staff shortage, outdated equipments and under trained colleagues from abroad.

In the rural area many hospitals and wards have closed down due to the shortage of doctors. The burden then rests on the shoulders of the existing doctors to look after the health of the community. This has taken a toll their health.

Association national president Dr Mukesh Haikerwal has said that the survey highlighted the pressing need more funding and support. He says RURAL doctors have identified better resources for rural hospitals and consistent national assessment for overseas-trained doctors. He said that they were hopeful of a response from the government on this in the federal budget soon.

The survey has provided useful information for better policy in rural health. They required better equipments and more funding to run the services. It is clear from the survey that in many respects rural doctors simply need more support to do their work and look after the health of their communities, he said.

People are wanting to have good, high quality services from which to work in regional, rural and remote Australia. That means hospitals that are open, hospitals that are allowed to do certain procedures and able to put large numbers of people through those hospitals utilizing those services.

These are all points at which the Government drops off. The Government has got to provide the services and facilities for this work to be done.

The federal government has to focus on the rural community so that things could be improved before it decayed. After all a healthy doctor can only look after a healthy community.
