India is a country that wakes up to new things and accepts them, although medical transcription is not so popular it is fast catching up.// Here doctors maintain there records in papers and are not well stocked in most cases. It is treated as just a job to document doctors’ patient records.

In contrast, in the US, medical case files are dictated by the doctors and maintained in the electronic format. MT industry in the US is well established. It is more than two decades old.

The general way that it is done is that the doctor, in a US hospital or a clinic, dictates the treatment given to the patient, which is captured as a voice file. The voice file is then transferred to the medical transcription centre (service provider) through the Internet. The transcriptionist at the medical transcription centre listens to the voice file and converts it into the text form, which is sent to the hospital or the clinic via the same channel to be stored in their electronic system for retrieval.

Candidates interested should be a graduate in any discipline, have a good knowledge base of English grammar, preferably with good written skills but not necessarily spoken skills, with good listening skills to comprehend the US English accent, computer and word-processing software knowledge , good typing skills, with an excellent concentration and an eye for detail are added strengths.

Medical Transcription is an interesting and rewarding career for individuals who desire a professional career in a medical-related field, in an IT environment.

It is also possible to do it from home and all that you need is computer, a foot pedal, a headphone, and electronic forms of dictionaries (English, medical, and drug).

There is a tremendous demand for medical transcriptionists. Opportunities for employment are available throughout the year.

There is a growing volume of work in the US MT industry, but there is a growing shorta ge of Medical Transcriptionists there. Therefore they target countries like India, china, Philippines etc.

In India, the MT industry is an IT-enabled service offering large-scale employment with a huge foreign exchange earning potential.

Keeping all these points in mind MT is a great career choice and fetches good results
