Rewards For Hospitals With Less Mortality Rates

Incentive for hospitals with a fewer infection and death rates is announced by the NHS North West. According to them, a similar method// has been tried out successfully in United States. This announcement was received with a mixed response from various quarters of society.

The incentive scheme initially is set for heart treatments, pneumonia, heart bypass grafts and hip and knee replacements. In case of very sick patients and severe complications, the hospitals will not be pulled up.

Mike Farrar, the chief executive of NHS North West said that incentives should be based on the quality of care provided to the patients. In the US, this system has proved effective in bringing down the death rate and the length of stay at the hospital. Levels of complication and readmission are also decreasing.
