Residents Of Former Industrial Towns In UK Most likely To Become Obese

Researchers are of the opinion that people living in former industrial towns, like Easington in England are the most likely to become obese.// According to a survey conducted by a credit reference company ‘Experion’ and analysts Dr Foster Intelligence, the residents of Easington, in the Durham county are 22% more likely to become obese than the average person, while those at another mining town Corby, Northamptonshire, in the east Midlands were second with 21% more at risk foe obesity.

The researchers found that at the bottom of the table were the people from west London borough of Kensington and Chelsea, who are 37% less likely than average to become obese. The researchers explained that after having analyzed the two sets of data had produced detailed maps of the obesity risks in all of England and Wales’s local authority areas.

They stated that the yearly rise in obesity among children under 11 should be controlled by 2010, which they explained should be the key target of the government and also the part of a wider strategy for tackling obesity in the population as a whole.

Emily Sparks, health consultant at Experian, said, 'Our joint research identifies areas most at risk of obesity related conditions such as diabetes and heart disease. Through better health mapping, we can now provide timely and relevant information to enable the more effective targeting of communications and the delivery of preventative care to social groups and neighborhoods most at risk of obesity.'
