Research on Effect of Party Pills on Driving

A survey has revealed that almost one in five youngsters have admitted to using legal party pills. Researchers will study the effects of these pills on driving//.

Lead researcher from the Medical Research Institute of New Zealand, Imogen Thompson said that participants of the study would be assessed for the influence of party pills, with and without alcohol.

The Massey University survey revealed that about nine out of 10 party pill users use alcohol with the legal highs.

"So this combination will be very interesting to study in terms of its effects on driving performance, mood, sleep and so on," Dr Thompson said.

The study has revealed that one in five people aged 13 to 45 have used the legal highs. The results have disturbed the medical community as well as raised calls for regulations on the use and availability of such substances.

One example of its misuse was seventeen-year-old Daniel James Stronach, of Balclutha, who was produced in court after being arrested in Queenstown for driving erratically.

On being questioned it was found that he had taken 40 party pills although he himself acknowledged the recommended limit was three.
