An information delegate of British Red Cross (Indonesia), Mark Snelling, explains about relief operations in earthquake tore areas of southern regions of Java island//.

Over 5,700 were died and more than a thousand were injured and everyone involved in the relief operation knows that that even 24 hours here is an eternity – said latest official reports.

The city of Yogyakarta, was totally collapsed and 200,000 lost their homes.

The most affected area is the Bantul district, were between 70% and 90% of the houses are destroyed.

Tents and urgent needs like tarpaulin is provided by Red Cross. People are found living on ground next to the affected area.

Hospital facilities and its number were increased in Bantul, the Indonesian Red Cross agency.

Norwegian and Singaporean doctors were added with Red Cross medics from Japan, Hong Kong and Korea to fasten the steps to recover the condition to normal.

Red Cross started distributing medicine, water, food, blankets, hygiene kit along with other agencies.

A team from British Red Cross logistics came and they worked in coordination with others in dealing the incoming flights of relief goods as well as finding extra warehousing to store the needed materials.

Indonesian Red Cross volunteers, international staff of doctors, nurses, relief experts, water engineers, logisticians and IT specialists, and uncountable numbers of volunteers reached the quake-hit area for relief work.
