Reducing The Risk Of Cervical Cancer

A new study shows the combination of a human papillomavirus ( HPV ) vaccination with cervical cancer screening reduces cervical cancer risk // significantly. HPV causes nearly all cervical cancers. According to a recent study it was found that , 65 percent of all cervical cancers are caused by HPV, and 9 percent are preceded by persistent infections with low-risk HPV. Screening with the Pap test can detect cervical cancer but it is not available to all women.

Researchers say their findings show that the administration of the HPV vaccine at age 12 with cervical cancer screening every three years starting at age 25 could reduce a woman’s lifetime risk of cervical cancer by nearly 95 percent.

However researchers conclude on a note of caution saying that, HPV vaccine will reduce, but not eliminate the risk of cervical cancer. In addition, clinical trial-based evaluation of the combination needs to be performed for more accurate results. Researchers also say that a vaccine is currently being tested in clinical trials and may be available to the public soon.
