Reasonable Quantities Of Wine May Increase Longevity

Wine if consumed in moderate quantities is expected to aid in longevity of life. This was divulged by the Netherlands study called as the Zutphen Study.//

According to this study, a minimal intake of wine is said to lower cardiovascular deaths and increase the life span in middle aged men when compared to other types of alcohol. This is the first time that a specific genre of alcohol is attributed to positive effects on the human body.

This research studied the pattern of alcohol consumption of 1373 men in varied age groups. Other parameters like their body mass index, smoking habits, history of heart attacks, stroke, diabetes and cancer were also considered.

The scientists concluded that life expectancy was 3.8 years more in men who consumed wine than with men who did not consume any alcoholic beverage at all. Meanwhile the life expectancy in wine drinkers was 2 years more than the users of other alcoholic beverages. In addition, the consumption of red wine is said to bring down stroke or heart attack.

Though this research seemed to highlight the benefits of moderate amount of consumption of wine, the American Heart Association does not advocate the same right now. As per the association, the right kind of diet, life style and exercise alone would have health benefits.
