The people who eat vegetables and fruits in raw state may have a low bone density, says a recent study in Archives of Internal Medicine//.

Researchers who studied the effect of eating raw vegetarian food found out that people who maintain a diet like this have a healthy mean body mass index of 20.5, when compared to people on a normal dietary intake who have an average BMI of 25.4, bordering on overweight. However the mean bone density of the former group was less than that of latter.

Researchers are of the opinion that although low bone mass may lead to clinical conditions like osteoporosis, the test results of the 18 volunteers of raw food dietary preference do not show any signs of vitamin D deficiency or increases brittleness of bones.

The new study is one of the first done on the effects of eating raw vegetables on physical conditions. The results show that people who prefer such a diet may become thinner and yet may not have much problems of health related to vegan diet. On the whole it may be a healthier option to eat raw vegetarian food, if you can maintain the protein intake through enough portions of legumes and soya and pulses.
