The Rajasthan government has decided to provide free tests to patients suspected to be suffering from the dengue fever to check against the spread of the disease.//

"We have taken a decision to provide free tests for patients suspected to be suffering from dengue in our hospitals," Rajasthan's Health Minister Digambar Singh told a press briefing here Tuesday.

The decision is aimed at helping poor patients and thus controlling the spread of the disease.

"The dengue test, which cost Rs.475 in government hospitals and around Rs.700 in private diagnostic centres, would be done free of cost at the state-run hospitals if prescribed by doctors," the minister added.

Admitting that seven people had died of dengue and 20 due to malaria in different parts of the state in last two months, Singh said the state government was taking all measure to control the spread of the diseases.

There are 21,746 cases of malaria and 193 of dengue cases in the state, the minister said, adding that no case of chikungunya had been reported from any government hospital so far.

Maintaining that the situation was not out of control, he said: "It would improve in next 10 days as surveillance had been mounted across the state."
