The condition of Rahul Mahajan, son of late BJP leader Pramod Mahajan, is 'serious but stable' after he was admitted to a private hopital here in the wee hours // , while Pramod's secretary Vivek Maitra was brought in dead.

'Rahul's condition is serious but stable, all his vital parametres are functioning normally', Apollo hospital spokesperson Karan Thakur told PTI.

Asked about the cause of Mahajan's ailment, Thakur said it was being examined.

'Whether the food poisoning happened because of stale eatables or some poisonous substance was mixed with the food we cannot say at the moment,' he said.

A multi-disciplinary medical team headed by Dr. Prasad Rao, who is the hospital's internal medicine specialist, is attending to Mahajan who was admitted at 3 am, he said.

He said Maitra was brought in dead while Rahul was unconscious and straightaway admitted to the ICU.

An official statement on the condition of Mahajan will be issued soon, he added.
