RIMS to start A Course On Sports Medicine From Next Year

The Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) is organising a three-day intensive course in sports medicine for doctors from the northeastern states from today// the 11th April. This course is being conducted with the aim of making up for the shortfall of sports medicine specialists in the Northeast; the North Eastern Council is sponsoring the course.

Professor L Fimate the RIMS director, while addressing the inaugural session of the three-day course, disclosed that the medical institution from next year onwards would conduct a sports medicine course.

Altogether 44 doctors, including medicos from Sikkim, have been invited for the course, which will be conducted by 11 resource persons, including six from other parts of the country. Besides specialists in many fields of the sports medicine have also come to speak on related subjects.

Supervising officer Sachdev Srivastava of the MCI has announced that a team of experts from Medical Council of India (MCI) would visit the Rajiv Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) Medical College.

Speaking to reporters, she said that she had come to inspect the progress of the work as MCI had to accord permission to start courses in the college from the academic year 2006 - 2007. She thoroughly inspected the buildings, equipment, other facilities and appointment of faculty and expressed satisfaction.

Director of Medical Education Sai Gopal and RIMS Medical College principal Indira Narayan has said that arrangements were being made for starting classes.
