The illegal transplants were reportedly permitted a principal of a medical college belonging to the government.

The NHRC has been called upon to intervene in the matter by Jawaid Laiq, a human rights activist, and prominent members of the legal profession like Ram Jethmalani, Ashok Kumar Singh, Kamini Jaiswal and Lataa Krishnamurthy.
