Project Stop to Block the Misuse of Cold and Flu Drugs

Pharmacy Guild launched a new program in Australia to stop the misuse and stocking up of the cold and flu drugs. The police would be informed automatically// via text messages alerting them to the name and location of the person amassing these drugs at pharmacies. In this new online program each time a customer want to buy medication containing pseudoephedrine, they will have to show pharmacists photo identification, such as a driver's licence.

Then their details will be stored on an online recording system. If customers try to buy multiple packets of cold and flu drugs within a short period of time, pharmacists will be warned to block the sale. This is mainly initiated to stop the young Australians to fall for speed addiction. National president of the Pharmacy Guild, Kos Sclavos said that they are simply trying to help protect the community from the blight of illicit drugs.

The trail was previously conducted in Queensland and it was a great success. The project named as Project Stop would be effective and believes that it is only a matter of time before the Federal Government makes the system mandatory for all pharmacies. Mr Sclavos also said that about 15 % of pharmacies no longer stock pseudoephedrine-based products and that was of a great disadvantage to the innocent consumers. But now those pharmacies can return those products to the shelf and sell them with confidence.
