Professional Footballer's Case Worries AIDS Activists

Professional football player Trevis Smith's trial has attracted a lot of attention and HIV/AIDS activists are worried that it will mean negative publicity for those living with the disease.//

Glenn Betteridge of the Canadian HIV/AIDS Legal Network said that painting all AIDS sufferers, as criminals would only serve to increase a false sense of security among people. "It's the wrong message and it serves to stigmatize all people living with HIV," Betteridge said "It paints all people living with HIV with a broad brush." Smith is charged with two counts of aggravated sexual assault against women in British Columbia and Regina. The 29-year-old will go to trial today.
