Private Health Care in Canada May Not Be A Distant Dream

Toronto: The Canadian Public Health Insurance System, notorious rather than famous, is now going to face some competition. Private Health Care is very much on its entry route to Canada, having garnered enough support from the several provinces in Canada. //

The first move came about by the Quebec government, which intended to remove the ban on private health insurance for elective surgeries. The government has now offered to chip in and pick up costs for such procedures at private clinics, when the same procedure demanded undue waiting time in the Public Health System.

This move is perhaps the most unimaginable of propositions that came through after the intervention of the Supreme Court last year. Quebec was on a government’s dictate to submit a plan for the revamp of the health care system, so a plan with required important changes is on its way. According to the proposal, private insurance will cover knee and hip replacements and cataract eye surgery. The public hospitals are allowed to avail the services of private clinics for procedures that will cause undue delay, six months or more to the patients. The plan will be submitted to the provincial Legislature for is approval before summer begins.
