Prince Of Wales Is Alarmed By The Obesity Wave In Britain

The Prince of Wales said that there is an increase in the number of oversized people in Britain. He asked people to balance their lifestyle and exercise regularly.

He said in a speech at St James's Palace that we are// following the close behind the United States in the health problem stakes.

Prince Charles said that the infrastructure of the city discourages pedestrians and physical activity.

A conference was held on health and urban design, which was attended by Dr Richard Jackson. At the conference Prince of Wales said that walking or cycling for half an hour a day could have a significant improvement on our state of health.

He asked the authorities to make environment more attractive and appealing to the pedestrian. He also said in his speech that building design affects public well being. He expressed his concern at the rise in people's suffering from allergies in the UK and the emergence of sick-building syndrome.

He said that the younger generation need more place to walk and cycle and asked for the introduction of complementary medicine, to combat obesity in youngsters. In November, he supported healthier, more nutritional, school meals.

Dr Jackson, who is professor at the University of California School of Health, said that obesity and mental illness are due to the poorly designed neighbourhoods.

Statistics from the Health and Social Care Information Centre shows that nearly one in four men and women in England are suffering from obesity.
