Having a full term pregnancy at the age of 20yrs may be the protective agent against breast cancer.// Researchers from Fox Chase Cancer Center in Philadelphia said that breast cells reach their stage of maturity only after a full term pregnancy. Once the cells are matured, then they are less vulnerable to cancer and earlier the women become pregnant the better chance they have against breast cancer.

The research study had successfully shown that pregnancy and a hormone produced during pregnancy have been called human chronic gonadotropin (hCG) have inhibited breast cancer in rats. The hormone that is found in placenta promotes full maturity of the breast cells, a process called differentiation. This hormone is successfully seen fending the breast cells against the cancerous changes that may be affected later.

Researchers feel that this hormone hCG may be suited for breast cancer prevention for women. The results of the study show that the hormone causes changes of a permanent nature on the genetic setup of the cells in the mammary gland and hence becomes successful in preventing the cancerous growth.

The results were presented in the Annual Meeting of the American Association for Cancer Research.
