A poultry owner in Jharkhand has come up with a novel idea to boost up the sales of the chicken, which has been down due to bird flu scare. He has announced a handsome reward of Rs. 100,000 for those who prove a bird flu case in the state.//

"No bird flu case has been registered in the state. And despite this, the bird import has been banned in the state. We offer a reward of Rs.100,000 if anyone proves bird flu case in the state," Rajesh Kumar of Karla Poultry Private Limited told IANS.

The state government last week banned import of chickens from other states.

"No chicken has died in the state due to bird flu. Some deaths of chickens were reported and the cause of their death was Ranikhet virus, not bird flu," said Kumar.

Jharkhand imports 40 tonnes of chickens every day, which is 60 percent of the total consumption.

Chief Minister Arjun Munda has already declared to compensate the poultry owners to Rs.40 per chicken if bird flu hits the state and culling becomes necessary.
