Poultry Deaths, Farmers Rush To Vet Centres in Tamil Nadu

The death of poultry and the overcrowding of farm owners in local veterinary centres has created much panic regarding the possibility of a bird flu outbreak in Tamil Nadub //. The deadly avian influenza virus outbreak in India was first reported in the month of February.

More than 20 chickens dropped dead Saturday in Manakkad area of Salem district, 400 km south of here. They have been sent to laboratories for tests.

Tamil Nadu has been on high alert ever since India's first case of bird flu was detected in Navapur village of Nandurbar district, some 300 km from Mumbai, last month.
