Postmen to Deliver Anti-malaria Medicines Along with Letters in Jharkhand

Along with letters the friendly postman will now deliver healthcare at the doorstep of Jharkhand villagers.//

'Postmen have been engaged to deliver anti-malaria medicines because they are the ones who visit the remotest parts of the state,' said Jharkhand health secretary Sivendu.

From delivering letters to Assam tea to anti-malaria medicines, the job of a postman is getting diversified by the day.

According to an estimate of the health department more than 15,000 people have malaria. This has claimed over 180 lives in the past year.

'After distributing the medicines the postmen will report back to us. Our officials will monitor the condition of the people through the postmen,' the health secretary said.

The health department officials said due to the difficult geographical terrain and the Maoist menace officials and doctors cannot always venture to the remote areas.

The postmen are posted in each block from where they cover more than a dozen villages.

Sources said the postmen in future may also deliver newspapers.
