Health Minister in Karnataka claims that he is soon going to have more up market looking// medical stores to be opened in Government hospital that is going to supply free medicines to the patients.

Apparently the minister plans to replace the dingy government hospital dispensaries for ‘swanky medical stores’. These will be located at the entrance of government hospitals and provide medicine for ‘Below Poverty Line (BPL)’ card holders...

Mr Ashok said that these medical stores will replace dispensaries in government hospitals in Bangalore first and later the same will be extended to the districts and the first of these modern looking government medical store will be inaugurated at the KC General Hospital.

“The medical stores will have to prominently display all available medicines. They will also have to display a checklist of stocks available”, Mr Ashok said.

This move would prevent doctors from asking their patients to purchase medicines from outside the hospitals. Ashok also said additional doctors had been deputed to Pavagada in Tumkur district and in Bellary, Raichur and Bidar. These doctors would work towards preventing the spread of rat fever.

The health plans laid out by the minster during his speech included:

# A list of drugs available at the store to be displayed on the notice board
# Uniform prescription pad in government health centres
# Nodal agency set up to control the spread of `rat fever' in Pavagada taluk and Rs.1 lakh grant made for this.
