Police Recover Remains of Fetuses from Haryana Maternity Home

Police have recovered the remains of fetuses from a maternity home in Haryana today.

The burnt fetuses were unearthed from Pataudi village after police received complaints from locals.

The police have registered a case and are in the look out for the owner of the clinic who is absconding.

"We sealed nursing home. The signature of Dr. A.K. Singh was required but he was not available and now a search has started. Cases under Section 420, 417, 312 and 313 have been registered," said Ram Pal, a police officer.

However, relatives of the absconding doctor said he is innocent. Singhs son Sonu said that everything is political.

Police and the villagers suspect the remains could be that of unborn female fetuses. It is common in several parts of the country to abort female foetuses.

Despite India banning use of technology to determine the sex of unborn fetuses and termination of pregnancies based on gender, unscrupulous medical practitioners still carry out this highly profitable, but unethical business.

According to the Government data, Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh and Chandigarh have heavily skewed sex ratios.

In Rajasthan, there are 922 females to every 1,000 males, but officials say in Punjab and Haryana, the sex ratio could be as low as 500 or 600 females to 1,000 males.
