Study has found that more Women in US will start breast feeding their child if the health care providers could encourage and explain them with the benefits of breast feeding//. As the study results showed that women who had plans of breastfeeding before child birth breast fed their children's for the required period compared to women who did not plan for breast feeding.

Professor Indu B. Ahluwalia and colleagues CDC, Atlanta surveyed data from 31,000 pregnant women and found that 9,500 women did not breast feed, 15000 women breast feed for more than 1 month, 4,000 did not breast feed for more than 1 month and 1,200 women did not breast feed for more than 1 week. The Researchers said that women who had plans of breast feeding before childbirth itself breast fed their children's for the required period. Women who did not breast feed their children's were mostly not interested of breast feeding or ignorant of the benefits of breast feeding to the child and the reasons mostly informed by them were breast tenderness or soreness, engorged breasts, insufficient milk, inverted nipples and busy work of the mother. The researchers feel that physicians should advise and encourage the pregnant women about the benefits of breastfeeding which would help number of pregnant women to start breastfeeding.
