Peoples Feelings Can Subconsciously Influence Others

An article published in the latest issue of Current Directions in Psychological Science finds that other people influence us with out us even knowing of it//. The article explains that we are tied to each other. That what other people do and how they express their feelings can be a contagious, strong influence.

Explaining that the stirring in the back of our minds are the influences of other people that affect us without our knowledge or recognition. The researchers found for example when the individuals were shown a picture of a library with instructions asking them to go there after the experiment, participants began to speak more softly, without being aware of why. Similarly, when primed to be rude, individuals interrupted a speaker, while those primed to be polite did not.

Arguing that we should not assume to be aware of most of the important influences on our behaviour and judgments. It urges us to accept that there are influences that we do not know about. Only then would one have a chance at counteracting those influences and regaining control, the study indicates. The report explains that we can be reassured by the knowledge that these automatic influences are benign, and this helps us to be in touch with our present circumstances while our conscious mind is constantly dwelling into the past memory or planning the future.
