Patients In A.P Inconvenienced As Doctors Go On Strike

Nearly 2500 junior postgraduate doctors boycotted emergency services, in ten government medical college hospitals in Andhra Pradesh They claim to be on strike// to mount pressure on the government in support of their demands.

The members of Andhra Pradesh Medical Students Association are on an indefinite strike demanding the state withdraw the Government Order No 19, which provides concession to the in-service doctors in admission to the PG medical courses in the state. They had earlier on Tuesday warned that if the demands not met they would boycott the emergency services on Wednesday.

The contention of the association was that the government order gives undue advantage to the in-service doctors, dilutes the quality of medical education and the number of seats to the fresh medical graduates are also reduced.

The medical services in government hospitals in the state capital, including Osmania General Hospital and Gandhi Hospital were badly affected causing inconvenience to patients.
