A new publishing partnership has been announced between Elsevier and Diabetes India. The partnership would be marked by the launch of a new journal, named Diabetes Research & Metabolic Syndrome in June 2006. // The journal would focus on the importance of the relationship between diabetes and metabolic syndrome with special reference to the causes of vascular damage and a glucose centered approach in treatment of the disorder. Diabetes India originally named as The Indian Task Force on Diabetes Care In India, has traveled a long way ever since it was started by merely 400 diabetologists. It now comprises of a panel of medical specialists, family physicians, people with diabetes and all others interested in the cause of diabetes. Their nationwide survey of the prevalence of diabetes in the country has already added lot of attraction from all around the world, including the WHO. Elsevier is a world-leading publisher and information provider in diverse areas such as science, medicine, education, law and business. According to the journal editor, Professor Philip Home, the global interest regarding the metabolic syndrome would be sufficient enough to attract attention for the journal in the current era of proliferating specialist journals in diabetes. He remarked that the launch of the journal as being timely and hoped that it would have a significant impact in the world of cardiovascular prevention. 'Despite the growing importance of diabetes and the metabolic syndrome worldwide, only a few medical journals are actually dedicated to these diseases. I am thrilled to be working with the editorial board whose members represent global leadership in diabetes and metabolic disorders, from both developed and developing countries.' explained Co-Editor, Professor Anoop Misra.
